For the second time this fall, the Liberty men's tennis team travels to the coast of North Carolina, competing in the UNCW Quad Invite at the UNCW Tennis Complex in Wilmington, N.C. The tournament begins Friday morning and will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
Liberty posted success in its first trip to Wilmington, N.C. this season, competing in the singles and doubles finals at the Seahawk Invitational before the final round was suspended due to inclement weather.
Junior transfer Jason Burgess battled valiantly against Big South foe Jean-Marc Krone of Campbell, coming up short in the Flight D finals in three sets by scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5).
In the Flight A doubles finals, the Flames' duo of Egon Samaai and Jorge Azuero went head to head against the host Seahawks' Sam Williams and Xander Veys, falling 8-4.
Liberty clinched a third-place doubles finish in Flight B thanks to Sam Matheson and Dillon Segur. The doubles tandem posted a 2-1 record, including an 8-7 (5) win over Campbell's Steven Billington and Adrien Rossignon in the third-place match.
This weekend's tournament marks the final fall tournament for the Flames. Joining Liberty this weekend will be the host UNCW Seahawks, USC Upstate and Richmond.
