With the Liberty women's soccer team taking the field for Senior Day this afternoon, LibertyFlames.com would like to take the time to highlight the four seniors being honored today. The following feature includes words from seniors Maddie Boone, Alanna Dunkle, Helena Pereira and Rebeccah Smith, as well as their favorite Bible verses.
The quartet will make their final regular-season appearance at Osborne Stadium today at 3 p.m. against Longwood. With a win or tie, Liberty can secure the Big South regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in the 2014 Big South Championship for the third time in program history.
Maddie Boone Since moving to center back at the start of the 2012 season, team captain Maddie Boone has become a lynchpin for the Lady Flames' defense. Last season, the defender was instrumental in guiding the team to a program-record 14 shutouts. A 2013 second team all-conference honoree, she has been named Big South Defensive Player of the Week on two occasions, this season. During her career, she has also garnered Big South All-Academic and All-Freshman team honors. Her appearance in tonight's match will mark her 80th as a Lady Flame, making her second all-time in program history for games played.
What have you enjoyed most about playing soccer at Liberty? We truly do play for the Lord. When we are playing soccer, it's not all that meaningful of a game. Not many people are going to remember what we do years from now. But if we can make an eternal impact because we play for Him, love in a way that's outside of this world and can point others to Christ, then that makes soccer worth it.
Favorite Bible Verse Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (NIV)

The forward played a key role during Liberty's 2013 Big South Championship run, earning a spot on the conference's all-tournament team. She takes the field tonight with a career total of 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists. This season, she is the team's co-leader in scoring with five goals.
What have you enjoyed most about playing soccer at Liberty? The different relationships that you make with people – anywhere from teammates, to coaches, to people in the athletics department. Everyone is always there for us and everyone is constantly trying to better you, not only as an athlete but as a person.
Favorite Bible Verse Romans 12:2 – Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)
Helena Pereira Forward Helena Pereira will be making her 75th appearance for the Lady Flames. She enters today's contest with a total of 19 points on eight goals and three assists. A member of the 2011 Big South All-Tournament team, she concluded the 2012 season as the team's co-leader in scoring with five goals.
What have you enjoyed most about playing soccer at Liberty? I enjoyed the opportunity to be able to share Christ with the other teams after our games. We always get to pray with them, talk to them and write encouraging letters to them.
Favorite Bible Verse Psalms 16:11 – You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (NIV)
Rebeccah Smith Midfielder Rebeccah Smith will be playing in her 72nd game this afternoon, having started 35 contests during her Liberty career. She enters today's match with a total of 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. This season, she has posted three goals, including the game-winner versus UNC Asheville on October 1st.
What have you enjoyed most about playing soccer at Liberty? The Christian community and how we try to keep Christ at the center. I've never been on a team before that believed so strongly about doing that. Being surrounded by girls that keep each other accountable, are constantly going through the same struggles, but uplifting and encouraging you has really impacted my life.
Favorite Bible Verse Psalms 62:5-8 – Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. 6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. 7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. (NIV)
