Women's Soccer Returns to Coastal Carolina, Friday

Sitting atop the Big South standings with two regular-season games remaining, the Liberty women's soccer team returns to the field where it captured the 2013 Big South Championship. On Friday, the Lady Flames (11-3-1, 7-0-1 Big South) will take on Coastal Carolina (8-7-2, 5-2-1 Big South), who is fourth in the standings, at CCU Soccer Stadium. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.

Liberty looks to extend its current unbeaten streak to 11 games. The Lady Flames also hope to garner eight Big South wins for the second straight season.

Liberty (11-3-1, 7-0-1 Big South) leads the all-time series versus the Chanticleers with a 10-6 record. The last four regular-season meetings between the two squads have resulted in a 1-0 decision, with each team taking two contests apiece.

Last Time Out for Liberty
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, the Liberty women's soccer team roared back with a trio of goals, defeating Winthrop, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon at Osborne Stadium.

Forwards Alanna Dunkle and Crystal Elmers each posted goals on the day and are tied for the team lead with five apiece. Junior midfielder Madison Kauzlarich followed up with Liberty's third marker, while freshman forward Jennifer Knoebel finished the contest with two assists. Knoebel is now second on the squad with five helpers.

With the win, Liberty moved to 11-3-1 overall, remaining atop the conference standings with a 7-0-1 record. The Lady Flames extend their program-best unbeaten streak to 10 games (9-0-1), having not tasted defeat since a 1-0 loss to George Washington on Sept. 7.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord played all 90 minutes in between the posts, finishing with eight saves.

A Look at the Lady Flames
Brittany Aanderud leads the team in points (16) on four goals and eight assists. The junior's assist total is tied for first in the Big South with UNC Asheville's Amanda Dailor and Radford's Jordan Lundin.

Alanna Dunkle and Crystal Elmers lead the team in goals with five apiece. Madison Kauzlarich has four goals, while Jennifer Knoebel and Rebeccah Smith each have three. Knoebel is also second on the team and tied for fifth in the conference with five assists. Jaime Bouffard and Baylee Gillmore have two goals and four assists on the year. Maddie Boone, Sami Santos and Jordan Kestel round out Liberty's scoring on the season with one goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord leads the conference in shutouts with seven. She is also first in the Big South in save percentage (.855) and goals-against average (0.67).

As a team, Liberty leads the Big South in assists (32), save percentage (.864), shutouts (8), fewest goals allowed (9) and goals-against average (0.64). Liberty is also second in the conference with 31 goals.

Head coach Jessica Hain is in her sixth season with the program. Hain is coming off the most memorable season of her coaching tenure at Liberty, guiding the program to its fourth Big South Championship and first since 2005.

Boone was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for games played, Oct. 13-19. The weekly conference honor marks Boone's second this season and the program's fifth overall.

Boone previously won the award on Aug. 25. Knoebel (Sept. 22) and Aanderud (Sept. 29) have each garnered Attacking Player of the Week honors, while junior defender Alex Mack was named Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6.

Coastal Carolina at a Glance
Coastal Carolina began the Big South slate with a 5-0-1 record before sustaining back-to-back 1-0 losses at UNC Asheville and Radford, respectively.

Kacey Kelley is tied for second in the conference with 10 goals this season and leads the Chanticleers with four assists.

Goalkeepers Faith Farley and Becca Austin have split the majority of the time in between the post s this season. Farley has received the starting nod in six of her 12 appearances and has a goals-against average of 0.97 and a .810 save percentage. Austin has also appeared in 12 contests, starting 10. She has a goals-against average of 1.16 and a .688 save percentage.

Looking Ahead
Liberty concludes the 2014 regular season at Osborne Stadium when they play host to Longwood, Tuesday at 3 p.m. Before the matchup, the Lady Flames will honor its four seniors – Maddie Boone, Alanna Dunkle, Helena Pereira and Rebeccah Smith.
