The Liberty women's soccer team looks to extend its unbeaten streak and remain undefeated in conference play, Wednesday afternoon, when it hosts Winthrop. Match time at Osborne Stadium is set for 3 p.m.

The Lady Flames (10-3-1) are now the only unbeaten team in Big South play, sporting a 6-0-1 conference record. The Eagles (6-7-1, 2-4-1 Big South) hope to play spoiler, guided by the Big South's leading scorer Krystyna Freda. With a win, Liberty can improve its current unbeaten streak to 10 games.

Last Time Out for Liberty
Liberty extended its unbeaten streak to a program-best nine games on Saturday, defeating Gardner-Webb, 2-1, at Greene-Harbison Stadium.

Senior defender Maddie Boone and junior midfielder Brittany Aanderud posted the Lady Flames' goals on the day. Aanderud and junior defender Alex Mack were credited with assists.

Aanderud's helper is her team-leading eighth of the season and 23rd of her career, adding to her existing school record. She is also tied for the team lead in goals (4) with forwards Alanna Dunkle and Crystal Elmers.

With the win, Liberty moves to 10-3-1 on the year and 6-0-1 in the Big South, marking its best seven-game start in conference play. The Lady Flames' current unbeaten streak bests the previous record of eight (2009).

A Look at the Lady Flames
Liberty senior defender Maddie Boone was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for games played, Oct. 13-19. The weekly conference honor marks Boone's second this season and the program's fifth overall.

Boone previously won the award on Aug. 25. Since then, freshman forward Jennifer Knoebel (Sept. 22) and junior midfielder Brittany Aanderud (Sept. 29) have each garnered Attacking Player of the Week honors, while junior defender Alex Mack was named Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6.

Aanderud leads the team in points (16) on four goals and eight assists. The junior's assist total is tied for first in the Big South (25th in the country) with UNC Asheville's Amanda Dailor.

Along with Aanderud, forwards Alanna Dunkle and Crystal Elmers also have four goals on the season. Knoebel, Rebeccah Smith and Madison Kauzlarich each have three goals, while Jaime Bouffard and Baylee Gillmore have two goals and four assists on the year. Boone, Sami Santos and Jordan Kestel round out Liberty's scoring on the season with one goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord leads the conference in shutouts with seven. She is also first in the Big South in save percentage (.850) and goals-against average (0.65). Van Noord is currently 36th in the country in goals-against average and 37th in save percentage.

As a team, Liberty leads the Big South in assists (30), save percentage (.862), shutouts (8), fewest goals allowed (9) and goals-against average (0.62). Liberty is also third in the conference with 28 goals. According to the latest national rankings summary, Liberty is 20th in goals-against average, 21st in shutout percentage, 23rd save percentage and 24th in assists.

Head coach Jessica Hain is in her sixth season with the program. Hain is coming off the most memorable season of her coaching tenure at Liberty, guiding the program to its fourth Big South Championship and first since 2005.

Liberty was unanimously voted the preseason favorite in the Big South Conference women's soccer preseason poll by the league's head coaches. The Lady Flames collected all 11 first-place votes and 121 total points, and were the preseason favorite for the first time since 2010 and sixth time overall.

Winthrop at a Glance
The Eagles enter Wednesday's contest with a 6-7-1 overall record and a 2-4-1 mark in Big South action. Winthrop most recently dropped a 3-2 decision to Campbell, Saturday.

Krystyna Freda leads the league with 14 goals and 31 points on the year. As a team, the Eagles sit atop the conference with 33 goals and 94 points and are second behind Liberty with 28 assists. Defensively, Winthrop is eighth in goals-allowed (27) and 11th in goals-against average.

Goalkeeper Ameila Henderson has appeared in 13 games, this season. She currently has a goals-against average of 1.72 and a save percentage of .735.

Liberty heads to Coastal Carolina on Friday to take on the Chanticleers, who are currently second in the conference standings. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
