Main draw play of the 2014 ITA Atlantic Regional began Friday at the Snyder Tennis Center and featured one Liberty double's team advancing to the round of 16. The Flames will have one doubles team and one singles competitor playing in the winner's bracket of the main draw on Saturday.
The duo of Egon Samaai and Jorge Azuero pulled together and will represent Liberty in the round of 16 in doubles competition following success on Friday.
The dynamic duo upended George Mason's Tanner Baine and Daniel Gutierrez by a score of 8-2. The Liberty tandem was able to carry the first round momentum into the second round against Georgetown's Daniel Khanin and Jack Murphy.
The Flames' pair muffled the Hoyas duo, defeating Khanin/Murphy by a score of 8-2. Samaai and Azuero look to bring more success to Liberty, squaring off against UMBC's Alex Drean and Daniel Gray in the round of 16 tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Liberty will be represented in the main draw singles bracket by none other than Samaai. Samaai advanced to the round of 64 after receiving a first round bye on Friday. Samaai squares off against Harry Walshe shortly after his doubles match on Saturday.
Dillon Segur and Sam Matheson will look to rebound from Friday's opening round losses, both competing in the consolation draw on Saturday. Segur will face off against James Madison's Sebastian Salinas while Matheson squares off with St. Joe's Renier Moolman.
The second round of the ITA Atlantic Regional continues tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.
