The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey team will host No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday at the Liberty Field Hockey Field and the match will be carried on ESPN3.
The Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) broadcast will be picked up by ESPN3, continuing a working relationship between LFSN and ESPN3. In recent years, ESPN3 has carried LFSN broadcasts for football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball on a regular basis.
The first-ever matchup between the two programs is set to start at 2 p.m., and will begin Liberty's final regular-season homestand of 2014.
North Carolina is the top ranked team in the nation and has finished as the national runner-up three out of the last four years. The Tar Heels, who are 11-2 on the season, rank third in NCAA history with six national championship titles, with their most recent title coming in 2009.
Liberty is in the midst of facing three straight nationally ranked programs. Last Sunday, Liberty dropped a 3-2 decision at No. 9 Duke with the Blue Devils scoring the winning goal with 23 seconds left in the match.
The Lady Flames are scheduled to face No. 6 Virginia in Charlottesville on Friday night. Liberty is 2-3 in previous matchups this year against top 25 programs, having posted wins at home over No. 11 Louisville and No. 12 Wake Forest.
The Lady Flames are currently 9-5 on the season and 3-0 in NorPac play. Liberty is the defending NorPac champion and will look to wrap up its third consecutive NorPac East title when the Lady Flames host Pacific on Oct. 23 at 4 p.m.
