The Flames Sports Hotline, a weekly radio call-in show, returns to the airwaves this evening at 7 p.m. The show is hosted weekly at Doc's and will feature men's basketball head coach Dale Layer and women's basketball head coach Carey Green tonight.
For the second year in a row, the Flames Sports Hotline will air weekly on the ESPNinVA network, which includes the following ESPN Radio stations in the Central Virginia area: 93.3 FM (Lynchburg), 106.3 FM (Danville), 1240 AM (Roanoke), 1320 AM (Lynchburg) and 1350 AM (Bedford).
The weekly show is hosted locally in Lynchburg on Liberty University's campus at Doc's, and the restaurant is open to the student body and the general public. The show is broadcast live throughout the 50's-style diner and fans are encouraged to participate during the call-in segments.
Alan York, the radio play-by-play broadcaster for football and men's basketball, hosts the call-in show, which will feature extended interviews with Layer and Green this evening, previewing the upcoming basketball seasons.
Layer, entering his sixth season as the Flames' head coach, will guide a new-look team in 2014-15. Nine newcomers dot the Liberty roster, complementing the veteran trio of senior forwards Tomasz Gielo and Andrew Smith and junior guard Joe Retic.
Conversely, the Lady Flames return four starters from last season's 20-11 squad, headlined by first team All-Big South post player Ashley Rininger. Green will be aiming to lead his team to its 13th Big South title in his 16 seasons at the helm.
Both the men's and women's basketball teams will tip off the 2014-15 season inside the Vines Center on Nov. 14. The Lady Flames will square off with Charlotte at 6 p.m., followed by the Flames' season opener against Randolph College at 8:30.
Following the segments with Layer and Green, York will open up the phone lines and field questions from the radio listening audience or those seated inside Doc's. Fans unable to make it out to Doc's each Monday night may call in at (877) 401-9041 to participate in the weekly show.
Those not able to participate in the call-in portion of the show can also email their questions to LFSN@liberty.edu, prior to the start of the show.
Flames Nation fans can listen to the show locally by tuning their radio dials to any of the ESPNinVA network of stations in the Central Virginia area. The show will also air live online at LibertyFlames.com and can be heard by clicking on the link above.
