Liberty women's soccer freshman forward Jennifer Knoebel has been named the Big South Attacking Player of the Week for games played Sept. 15-21. The announcement was made by the conference office earlier this afternoon.
The weekly honor marks the first ever for Knoebel in her budding collegiate career and the second for the Lady Flames, this season. Senior defender Maddie Boone earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 25.
Knoebel posted a pair goals in Liberty's matchup versus George Mason, last Tuesday, giving the Lady Flames the 2-0 victory at Osborne Stadium. Knoebel's first marker occurred just before the 40th minute. Fellow freshman Baylee Gillmore sent a pass to the right side of the 18-yard box for Knoebel, who made a cut toward the George Mason goal. The forward tucked a shot inside the far post, giving Liberty the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Knoebel lit up the scoreboard again at the start of the 59th minute. Junior midfielder Brittany Aanderud took a free kick for the Lady Flames, airmailing it sophomore forward Erika Troutman, who chipped it off the back of her foot to Knoebel on the left side of the goal frame. Knoebel then tapped the ball into the back post, sealing the 2-0 victory. Knoebel currently leads the Lady Flames in scoring with three goals on the season.
Liberty begins conference play this Wednesday at Charleston Southern. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
