Field Hockey to Host Wake Forest & Missouri State

The Lady Flames field hockey team will begin its six-game home stretch this weekend when Liberty hosts the No. 12 Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Friday at Liberty Field Hockey Field. The contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Flames will follow up Friday's contest by playing Missouri State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

A Glance at Liberty
The Lady Flames enter the weekend with a 2-4 record (1-0 NorPac), following their most recent trip in Pennsylvania. In the first against Lafayette, the Leopards defeated the Lady Flames by a score of 4-2. Liberty defeated Penn in its most recent contest by a score of 3-2, snapping the team's four game slide. Sarah Gipe was able to capture the game-winning goal for the Lady Flames in the closing minutes of the game.

Gipe leads the team in goals with two, while eight other Lady Flames are tied for second with one goal each. Gipe also is the team leader in points with five and assist leader Ashlee Krulock is right behind her with four points. Junior goalie Mallory Cuccio has 33 saves in the first six games, ten saves behind her single season record of 43 set back in 2012.

A Glance at the Demon Deacons
Wake Forest finished the 2013 season ranked No. 13 with a 12-9 record before falling to North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA tournament by a score of 5-2. The Deacs come into this weekend ranked No. 12 with a 4-2 record following their most recent 2-1 loss against No. 4 Duke. Wake was picked to finish fourth in the ACC conference standings this year. The Deacs are 2-0 when facing the Lady Flames, with the last matchup going in Wake's favor, a 3-2 victory at Kentner Stadium in Winston Salem, N.C. on Sept. 13, 2013.

A Glance at the Bears
Missouri State concluded the 2013 season with a 4-12 overall record. The Bears enter the weekend with a 2-3 record, and will look to improve their record, facing Longwood and James Madison before coming to Lynchburg. The Bears are winners of two in a row, outscoring opponents, 9-5. In their most recent contest, Missouri State handed Saint Louis a 4-1 loss at Betty and Bobby Allison North Stadium in Springfield, Mo. The Bears and Lady Flames have squared off once before, with Liberty pulling away in a 4-1 victory in St. Louis, Mo. on Sept. 30, 2012.

A Look Ahead
The Lady Flames continue their home stand next week, squaring off against Ohio on Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m. Two days later Liberty will host No. 14 Louisville in a contest starting at 1 p.m.
