The Liberty Lady Flames women's tennis team concluded its first round of the Elon Invitational, Friday. Competition was delayed due to inclement weather, before resuming play late in the evening. The Lady Flames finished well in their first round of competition for the season. Overall Liberty went 18-3 on the day, including 4-0 in doubles competition. The Lady Flames were led by senior Brittany Yang, who advanced to the second round in the B-1 singles flight. "We're very proud of the team for working so hard in practice over the past few weeks, and today we saw it pay off as everyone produced good results on the first day," Liberty head coach Jeff Maren stated. Among the impressive display was the determination from freshman Evangeline Crist. Crist came in as a top recruit for the Lady Flames and she played up to expectations, advancing to the second round of singles play as well as doubles competition. "Evangeline participated in her first college tournament and did extremely well, winning all three of her hard-fought matches," Maren said. "I was very proud of her focus and determination today." The Lady Flames will begin the second round tomorrow at 11 a.m., as more inclement weather is expected early in the morning.
