As the Liberty field hockey team continues to prepare for the upcoming season, Nick Pierce of the Liberty Flames Sports Network had a chance to talk with head coach Jodi Murphy as well as senior midfielder Helen Doolittle.
The interviews provide insight into the Lady Flames' mentality and preparation heading into the season, along with the expectations for the 2014 campaign as they face the toughest schedule in program history.
Liberty looks to duplicate its success from last season, when the squad finished with an overall record of 17-5 and captured the NorPac East Division title for the second year in a row. Liberty rode an 11-game winning streak heading into the NorPac title game, where the Lady Flames avenged the result from the previous season, defeating No. 10 Stanford 2-1 to capture their first NorPac title.
Liberty's first scrimmage is scheduled for Aug. 22 versus the William & Mary Tribe. The contest is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at Liberty Field Hockey Field. The first official game of the season is set for Aug. 29, as the Lady Flames travel to California to take on Pacific at 6 p.m. Eastern in a NorPac battle.
