Liberty's Andrew Yacyk was named to the 2014 Valley League first team. The rising sophomore, who played for the Charles Town Cannons this summer, was selected as the team's designated hitter.
Yacyk, the Cannons' first baseman and designated hitter, hit .277 with 22 runs scored and 34 RBI in 34 games for Charles Town. He hit eight home runs and had 11 doubles, posting a .571 slugging percentage.
Yacyk led the wooden bat league in home runs. He also led the Cannons in RBI and completed the summer fifth in the Valley League in RBI. Charles Town finished the wooden bat league's season with a 23-19 record, making the playoffs. In his first season with the Flames in 2014, Yacyk hit .241 with 18 RBIs in 42 games, with 26 starts. He had seven doubles and hit four home runs, playing in the outfield, at first base and serving as the Flames' designated hitter.
Liberty posted a 41-18 record this past spring. The Flames received the program's first ever at-large selection to a NCAA Regional and appeared at a regional in back-to-back years for the first time in team history. With 41 wins, Liberty recorded the second most wins and posted the fourth 40-plus win season in program history. In addition, the Flames set a program high for Big South Conference victories with a 23-3 mark in 2014.
