Liberty Field Hockey to Face Challenging 2014 Slate

2014 Liberty Field Hockey Schedule

Coming off of its first NorPac Championship title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013, the 2014 Liberty field hockey team will face the most challenging schedule in program history. The Lady Flames' slate features 5 NCAA Tournament qualifiers from 2013 and five of the ACC's seven members.

Head coach Jodi Murphy's squad will play 11 of its 18 regular-season tilts at Liberty Field Hockey Field, equaling the most home matches in program history. Perennial national powers North Carolina and Old Dominion and ACC newcomer Louisville will all visit Lynchburg for the first time this fall.

The fourth season of Liberty field hockey will open with a pair of matches in California. The Lady Flames will begin with a NorPac matchup at Pacific on Aug. 29 and then travel to Stanford two days later for a rematch of the 2013 NorPac Championship title tilt.

Liberty will welcome Commonwealth foes to Lynchburg for its first two home contests of the year, in VCU (Sept. 5) and 2013 NCAA Tournament participant and nine-time national champion Old Dominion (Sept. 7).

The Lady Flames will return to the road the following weekend, heading to the Keystone State for games at Lafayette (Sept. 12) and Penn (Sept. 14).

Liberty will play six straight home matches between Sept. 19 and Oct. 5, tying the longest string of consecutive home tilts in program history. The run will include matchups with 2014 NCAA qualifier Wake Forest (Sept. 19), Missouri State (Sept. 21), Ohio (Sept. 26), Louisville (Sept. 28) and Longwood (Sept. 30), before wrapping up with the first of back-to-back NorPac contests versus Appalachian State (Oct. 5).

The Lady Flames will pay a return visit to Appalachian State on Oct. 10 before facing a trio of ACC foes in eight days, all of whom competed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Liberty will play at 2013 NCAA runner-up Duke (Oct. 13) and Virginia (Oct. 17), prior to a home showdown with 2013 NCAA semifinalist North Carolina on Oct. 19.

The Lady Flames will close out the regular season with a NorPac home game with Pacific (Oct. 23) and a non-conference contest against Georgetown (Oct. 28).

Pacific will play host to the 2014 NorPac Championship, Nov. 6-8 in Stockton, California. Liberty will attempt to defend its NorPac title from 2013 and return to the NCAA Tournament, which will begin with the play-in round on Nov. 12.
