On Father's Day, the Lady Flames enjoyed a yacht ride on the Red Sea.
With a day off between the Friendship Games semifinal and championship game, the Lady Flames spent Father's Day enjoying a yacht ride on the Red Sea. Mickayla Sanders summarizes the team's Sunday, including her experience of captaining the yacht.
The Lady Flames also extend Father's Day greetings to all of their fathers back home.
Liberty will square off with Germany in the 2014 Friendship Games title game Monday at 10 a.m. Israel (3 a.m. Eastern). They will then attend the Friendship Games closing ceremony at 4 p.m. (9 a.m. Eastern).
Hi from Eilat, everyone!
It's June 15, which means it's Father's Day!! Happy Father's Day to all the fathers who are reading this, and thank you for all that you do!
Today was an off day for the tournament, which meant a day to kick our feet up and relax, or in our case, go out on a yacht. We left the hotel at 10 a.m. and took a shuttle to the marina where our Pirates of the Caribbean yacht sat waiting for us. We noticed that we were missing Coach Sherard, and he later informed us as to why he arrived late. It involved a hilarious story about him being locked in an elevator alone, for a good 25 minutes.
After everyone found their seat, whether it was under the shade or in a chair by the front of the deck, we all became mesmerized by how clear the Red Sea was. As we were riding along, the captain of the ship would point out different countries. Yes, you read that right—countries. He would point over to the left and say, "This is Jordan," or, "Look over there to the white poles. That is Saudi Arabia," and, "Up in front, you can see Egypt." It was really cool to be able to see four different countries from one body of water. But not just any body of water, the sea that Moses parted!
Being the antsy person I am, I was getting restless just sitting and watching the water. So I got this great idea to ask if I could drive the boat. I mean what's the worst the captain could say to me, "No?" I made my way to the back and at first asked if I could watch. Anyone who knows me should know that I asked a million questions. Either the crew got really tired of me or saw my interest because eventually they let me drive! I was steering a ship in the Red Sea! My instructions were to head to the mountains, which is the equivalent of saying turn at the next tree in America. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, but the captain was very nice, and explained everything to me.
Eventually we made it to the spot where we were able to swim and snorkel. It was so much fun and everyone was able to get in and enjoy themselves. Some of us ventured out a bit further than the rest with Ben, and he showed us some coral, and we even saw a snake on the bottom!
After we swam, we ate chicken, hamburger, rice and other small arrangements. It was by far my favorite meal, and I am pretty sure most of my team would agree. After lunch, Catherine and Ashley went on a different boat and went parasailing. They said it was such a great adventure and so much fun. Overall, the boat trip took from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. It was a great way to spend the day.
When we arrived at the hotel, some of us went to eat and some others rested up for our practice at 5:30. After practice, we were able to come back and shower and our coaches sent shuttles so we could go to the Ice Mall. It's called the Ice Mall because they have a huge ice rink in the middle of the mall, and all of the stores surround the rink. It was a really neat mall, and most of us were able to find something.
It's getting late here, and I need to be well rested for our championship game tomorrow, which is at 10 a.m.
Shalom from Eilat!
