The Liberty men's tennis team notched a pair of new program bests when the final ITA rankings were released last week. The Flames earned their highest year-end regional ranking in program history, claiming the No. 8 spot in the Atlantic Region. Additionally, Liberty's doubles tandem of Shea Thomas and Jorge Azuero became the first pair in program history to be ranked at the end of the year, coming in at No. 75 in the nation and No. 7 in the region.
The No. 8 regional ranking is the second time in program history the Flames have garnered a year-end ranking in the region. In 2010, Liberty concluded the year ranked No. 10.
Liberty finished the 2014 season with a 12-10 overall record and a 5-3 mark in Big South matches. The 12 wins marks the sixth consecutive season that the Flames have notched double-digit victories. The five league wins are the most in program history and is just the third season that Liberty has finished with a record above .500 in conference play.
Thomas and Azuero highlighted the season for the Flames, becoming the highest nationally ranked singles or doubles players in program or Big South history. Thomas and Azuero climbed to as high as No. 19 in doubles action in the ITA national poll en route to a Big South all-conference doubles honor.
