After 30 hours of travel, the Liberty women's basketball team arrived safely in Israel on Thursday. Today's blog post, courtesy of Sadalia Ellis, recaps the Lady Flames' travel adventures and their first full day in Israel.

Hello to all and to all hello!

This is Sid back at it again, but this time I do not come to tell a story about how laughter is caused at the expense of pranking others. Instead, I come sharing wonderful details about this magnificent trip to Israel we are currently a part of, courtesy of Liberty Women's Basketball. Before I start giving details and sharing this experience, I would just like to say how much of a blessing it is to experience the Holy Land, or as I like to say, "HOME." I also would like to say that if any of you ever have the chance to visit Israel, take it without hesitation.

Now that I've said that, let me tell you all about the travel day (Lord Jesus the Travel Day). Well, it began Wednesday morning at about 4:45 a.m. with a meeting at Doc's Diner to board the lovely Liberty bus. From there, we traveled to the Lynchburg train station and took about an 8-hour trip to New York, where we would eventually fly out on EL Al airlines. We arrived to New York at about 2 or 3 p.m., but our flight wasn't until 11:30 p.m.

Upon arrival in New York, we were informed that we would not be able to go through security until 7:30, so we had plenty of free time to bond as a team. We had multiple games going on, from Catch Phrase to Spades. By the time we were able to get through security, the first thing we all wanted was FOOD, so we all went to various places. Then it was time to finally board the plane. Personally, I thought that the plane ride was AMAZING, because I instantly went to sleep with no problems. When I woke back up, it was breakfast time and we only had about two more hours left till arrival.

Let me fast forward to our first day of touring, which was quite an experience. We were actually standing where Jesus fed the five thousand, we were baptized in the Jordan River, and we also swam in the Jordan River. We went to Capernaum. We walked on the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus gave his "Blessed is the man" sermon, and we even took a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee where Jesus walked on the water.  As I walked and listen to our tour guide tell us the history and read the scriptures, my Spirit just felt joyful. I had chills the entire time (the good kind). I wish I could say so much more, but words just cannot describe how amazing this place really is.

Oh and I can't forget this part! We had a fish (St. Peter's Fish) lunch, which was just wonderful. The best part was that Catherine, Ashley, and I had the awesome experience of eating a fish eye. Surprisingly it was good, just a little crunchy! Well that's all I have for the travel day and day 1 of the Israel experience.
