For the second straight season, 2012 Liberty graduate Avery Warley-Talbert will have the chance to play for the WNBA's New York Liberty, after being picked up by the team earlier this week. Warley-Talbert appeared in eight games for the Liberty in 2013, averaging 3.0 ppg and 4.9 rpg. She will begin her third WNBA season Thursday at 7 p.m., when the 2-4 Liberty play host to the San Antonio Silver Stars at Madison Square Garden. Warley-Talbert will join a team coached by Bill Laimbeer and headlined by the duo of Tina Charles (15.5 ppg, 11.7 rpg) and Cappie Pondexter (14.7 ppg). The all-time leading rebounder in Liberty and Big South Conference history (1,282 rebounds), Warley-Talbert has been effective on the boards during her time in the WNBA with the Liberty, the Phoenix Mercury and the Chicago Sky. In 50 career games, she is averaging 12.8 rebounds per 40 minutes played. During the WNBA's off-season, Warley-Talbert played for Orduspor in the Turkish Basketball League (TKBL). She averaged a double-double (12.3 ppg, 10.1 rpg), ranking third in the league for rebounding. Warley-Talbert shot 60.3 percent (132-of-219) from the field and 77.1 percent (81-of-105) from the foul line. The 27-year-old Warley-Talbert married former Arena Football League and New Mexico State wide receiver Manwell Talbert on Aug. 21, 2013.
