The Lady Flames recently completed their first season under head coach Kelly Nangle and LFSN reporter Alan York had a chance to catch up with her to talk about her inaugural season.
Nangle was named the second head coach in the history of Liberty's women's lacrosse program on June 21, 2013, earning the position after two successful seasons as head coach at Central Connecticut State.
In her first season on Liberty Mountain, Nangle had four of her players earn Big South all-conference accolades. Jen Moyer (first team), Nina Dunay (second team), Sam Struss (second team) and Kallie Britton (honorable mention) all were honored for the play during the outstanding play this season.
Nangle's younger squad in 2014 was made up of more than 70 percent of underclassmen, as she had nine sophomores and 10 freshman on her 27-player roster.
The Lady Flames were led offensively by Struss (41 goals, 9 assists) and Morgan Becker (32 goals, 8 assists). Britton paces the squad with 17 assists and 36 ground balls.
In addition to ranking fourth on the roster in points with 33 (22 goals, 11 assists), Dunay had a team-best 23 caused turnovers, which is ranked in the top five in the Big South.
Becker ranked first in the Big South in draw controls per game (4.35) and collected a Liberty single-season record 79 overall.
In goal, Kristen Masullo has 168 saves overall and a .419 save percentage, which ranked her second in the league. The senior surrendered 233 goals for a goals-against average of 14.70.
