During last week's inaugural athletics department cord ceremony, men's golf senior Ian McConnell was provided the opportunity to reflect on his time at Liberty.

McConnell was among the 60-plus student-athletes that received cords signifying that they are an NCAA Division I student-athlete. The cord is to be worn during Saturday's commencement ceremonies.

During his four-year playing career, McConnell helped the Flames claim three Big South titles and advance to four-straight NCAA Men's Golf Regionals. The senior will play in his final career NCAA Regional next week when No. seed 6 Liberty participates in the NCAA Eugene Regional in Eugene, Ore.

McConnell was part of Liberty's 2012 squad that won the NCAA Greensboro Regional and finished 10th at the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

McConnell is slated to graduate on Saturday with a government degree and he currently is maintaining a 3.819 GPA.

The native of Riverview, Fla., was recently named the 2014 Big South Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year in April and was named to the 2013 GCAA/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar team (10th golfer in program history to be named to the national golf academic team).
