The Liberty women's tennis team celebrated a 2014 successful season Saturday night during an awards banquet at the Hancock Welcome Center.
The Lady Flames' three seniors, Annisha Domenech, Rebekah Jenkins and Cameron Richard, were recognized for their contribution to the program during their careers. Additionally, head coach Jeff Maren and assistant coach Giancarlo Lemmi handed out several individual awards.
"Our seniors have had amazing careers here at Liberty and it was a privilege to honor them this weekend," commented Maren. "We all had a great time talking about memories from this season and celebrating the continued growth of our program."
Junior Brittany Yang was named the team's MVP and Academic Award recipient, while sophomore Belen Rivera was tabbed the squad's Most Improved Player. Freshman Lauren Mabe took home the Strength and Conditioning honor, while senior Cameron Richard garnered the Jessie Boda Spirit Award.
Liberty finished the season with a 15-9 overall record and a 7-2 mark in Big South competition. The Lady Flames' 15 overall wins ties the single-season program record, which was set in both the 2009 and 2011 seasons. The seven Big South victories set a new Liberty single-season record, breaking the old mark of six which was accomplished twice (2009, 2011). Liberty earned its first-ever ITA national ranking on March 4, coming in at No. 74.
