With Liberty's spring football season now in the books, head football coach Turner Gill has named four players as his team captains for the 2014 season.

During his third season as Liberty's head football coach, Gill will look to player leadership from 2014 team captains Jonathan Burgess (OL), Dominique Davis (DL), Jacob Hagen (S) and Josh Woodrum (QB).

Burgess started nine of 11 games at left guard for Liberty in 2013 and helped the Flames rank No. 22 in the country in fewest sacks allowed (1.17 per game).  Burgess earned All-Big South second-team honors in 2013 and successfully blocked for Flames' running back Desmond Rice who rushed for the second-most rushing touchdowns in a season in program history (16).

Davis will help solidify a younger defensive line in 2014, having played in 11 out of 12 games last year and starting one game (Coastal Carolina). Davis was one of five players on the team with multiple quarterback hurries, last season.

Hagen was one of Liberty's most decorated defenders from 2013, including Associated Press third-team All-America honors. The defensive back ranked third on the team with a career-best 61 tackles (34 solo, 27 assisted) and was tied for No. 3 in the country with six interceptions.

Woodrum is serving as the program's team captain for the second year in a row after earning All-Big South second-team honors in 2013. The rising junior quarterback had a career year as he ranked No. 1 in the Big South in passing yards (2,581) and passing touchdowns (19). Last year, had the second-best sophomore passing season in program history.

The four team captains will look to lead their fellow teammates during the summer workout season and when the Flames return to campus at the end of the July to begin preparation for the 2014 season.

Liberty's football players are slated to report back to campus on July 30 and hold their first preseason workout on July 31. The Flames will open the 2014 season on the road at North Carolina on Aug. 30 and will open at home against Brevard on Sept. 13.
