Ashton Perritt has been named to the midseason watch list for the 2014 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award.
Liberty's Ashton Perritt is one of 50 relief pitchers named to the midseason watch list for the 10th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award. The honor is annually given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I.
Perritt, who also starts in the outfield, has posted a 1-1 record with a 1.64 ERA and nine saves in a team-high 14 appearances this season for the No. 30-ranked Flames. The junior right-hander has struck out 23 and walked three in 22 innings.
Last night, Perritt earned his ninth save of 2014, retiring the side in order to close out Liberty's 4-3 win at No. 20 Clemson.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and announced on June 4. The NCBWA's All-American Committee will select the winner, with this year's recipient being announced during the College World Series.
Liberty will face the North Carolina Tar Heels, this evening at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
