The Liberty volleyball team competed in its final spring tournament of 2014, on Saturday at Virginia. The Lady Flames went 1-2 during their time at Memorial Gymnasium, defeating Maryland of the ACC while falling, 2-1, to James Madison and the host Cavaliers. On the day, Caroline Douglas led the Lady Flames with 36 kills, attacking at a .272 pace. Melissa Racz chipped in 17 total kills while hitting .306, and Nzea McQuitery (.417) added 12 kills. Gabrielle Shipe collected a team-best 16 digs, and Susan Babcock paced Liberty with five total blocks. Liberty vs. Virginia The Lady Flames took set one from Virginia, 25-21, before the Cavaliers rallied to win sets two and three, 25-17 and 15-11. Liberty hit .282 as a team, getting 11 kills from Douglas. Racz sent down eight kills, hitting .417, while McQuitery connected for kills on six of eight attempts. Liberty vs. Maryland Liberty downed the Maryland Terrapins, 2-1 (25-19, 18-25, 15-11), during the team's second match on Saturday. Douglas led the Lady Flames with 13 kills at a .324 attack percentage, while Rachel Smoltz collected a team-best eight digs. Liberty vs. James Madison For the third match in a row, Liberty claimed a set-one victory over James Madison, 25-18. The Dukes then won set two, 25-21, and set three, 15-11. Douglas once again led the way, with 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Racz and McQuitery totaled six kills apiece, while Babcock posted three blocks. Liberty hit .328 as a team against James Madison.
