Former Liberty Flames defender Osei Telesford has signed a contract with Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire.

A 2006 graduate of Liberty and team captain for the Flames, Telesford was selected to the Big South All-Conference first team three times (2003, 2005 and 2006) and capped his Liberty career by being named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Atlantic Region first team for the second-straight season in 2006.

In his last season with Liberty, Telesford started 14 games in 2006 without a point. However, the San Juan, Trinidad native was a key member of the Liberty defense which allowed only one goal during a five-game winning streak at season's end. During the streak, the Flames posted four of the team's five shutouts on the year. Liberty held opponents scoreless for 347:54, spanning their last three contests, before Winthrop scored late in a 2-1 OT loss in the Big South Championship semifinals to end the Flames season.

For his Liberty career, Telesford played in 66 games with 65 starts. He scored nine goals and assisted on eight more during his four seasons with the Flames. In 2005, his junior campaign, Telesford moved to the midfield where he netted a career-high six goals and had five assists for a total of 17 points.

During the summer months, Telesford played three seasons with the Carolina Dynamo of the Premier Development League (PDL). As its team captain, he helped the Dynamo to an unbeaten 14-0-2 record in 2006 and was named 2006 PDL Defender of the Year.

In January, Telesford and former Liberty teammate Darryl Roberts were selected to the Trinidad and Tobago National team and played on the squad during the 2007 Digicel Caribbean Cup. Telesford played in every game for Trinidad and Tobago as they reached the finals of the tournament.

The defender became the third Liberty soccer player to be drafted by a MLS team this past January, as he was selected with the 21st overall selection of the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Chicago Fire. Roberts, who was taken earlier in the same draft by Toronto FC with the 14th pick and defender Hollis Donaldson, who was the first Flames' player taken in a MLS Draft when the Fire picked him in the fourth round of the 2005 Supplemental Draft, are the other two Liberty players ever selected by the league.

The Chicago Fire won the MLS Cup as well as the US Open Cup in 2000, 2003 and 2006. They open their 2007 season by hosting the New England Revolution on April 7.
