The No. 3 seed Liberty men's tennis team opens play in the 2014 Big South Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday with a quarterfinal tilt against the No. 6 seed Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at 11:30 a.m.
Prior to departing for the site of this year's tournament, Boiling Springs, N.C., Flames' head coach Chris Johnson and all-conference doubles performer Dillon Segur had chance to share their thoughts on the tournament with LFSN's Nick Pierce. During the interview, Johnson and Segur talk about the momentum the team has built up over the last couple of weeks and discuss the upcoming contest against Coastal.
Liberty (5-3 Big South) and Coastal Carolina (4-4 Big South) recently met last Wednesday, with the Flames earning a come-from-behind 4-3 victory, snapping a three-match losing skid to the Chanticleers. Liberty is 1-2 all-time against Coastal Carolina in the Big South tournament.
If the Flames are able to knock off Coastal, they will face the winner of match No. 4, which features No. 2 seed Winthrop versus No. 7 seed Gardner-Webb. Earlier this season, Liberty fell to both Winthrop and Gardner-Webb by identical 5-2 scores.
