Liberty held its first home golf tournament since 2009 this past weekend, winning both of its matches in the Liberty University Match Play Invitational on Saturday at Poplar Grove Golf Course.
The Liberty Flames Sports Network Game On crew was on hand for the match play event and LFSN Game On reporter Clement Townsend filed the following report.
The Flames defeated George Mason, 5&1, during the morning rounds of competition on the par-72, 7,059-yard Sam Snead designed course. During the afternoon, Liberty withstood a late charge from James Madison, but was eventually able to down the Dukes, 4&2.
The event was the second-to-last regular season tournament for the Flames before Liberty looks to claim its third Big South title in the last four years at the 2014 Big South Men's Golf Championship at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. (April 21-23).
