Alys DiMartino allowed one unearned run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings on Monday, picking up her second win of the season.

Liberty earned its first Big South victory of the season, holding Charleston Southern to five hits en route to a 4-2 win over the Buccaneers, Monday at Liberty Softball Field.

With the win, the Lady Flames now hold a 5-27 record, including 1-8 in Big South play. The Buccaneers fall to 19-21-1 and 5-6 in conference games after winning this weekend's series at Liberty, 2-1. During Monday's second game, Liberty took advantage of four CSU errors.

Alyssa DiMartino (2-9) pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits. Annah Jo Brittingham then nailed down her first career save, allowing one run on one hit in 1 1/3 innings of work to close out the Liberty win.

CSU pitcher Jennifer Giles (9-7) yielded four runs (two earned) during the complete-game effort, fanning four Flames.

Liberty's Kelby Allen went 2-for-3 for the second game in a row, scoring one run and driving in one run. Sammi Shivock, Blair Lawrence and Katie Zavodny each had one hit and scored a run.

For CSU, Stephanie Bergmann hit 2-for-3 with a home run, while Stephanie Sbardella batted 1-for-3 with a double and Natalie Yonan plated one run as a pinch hitter.

DiMartino faced three batters in the first, as Amanda Matsumoto walked and was caught stealing.

The Lady Flames struck first, with a run in the bottom of the second. Leadoff batter Holly Seiz was hit by a pitch and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. Shivock then singled and moved to second on a throw home. After Seiz was erased at the plate on a squeeze attempt, Shivock scored from third on a throwing error during a double-steal play with Lawrence.

DiMartino continued to set the Buccaneers down in order, retiring 11 batters in a row, retiring the side in order in the third, fourth and fifth.

Liberty added three insurance runs in the third, manufacturing runs by putting pressure on CSU's defense. Lawrence led off with a single, and went to second on a throwing error. Zavodny then drove in Lawrence with a bunt single, going to second on the throw. Following a sacrifice bunt, Allen made it 3-0 with an RBI single to left.
A Kassidy McCoy single put runners on first and second with two outs, before a CSU error on a grounder by Shivock allowed Allen to score.

Giles worked through trouble in the fourth. Lawrence reached third base with one out, but the CSU right-hander kept the score 4-0 by getting Robinson to ground to third.

Charleston Southern began its comeback attempt in the sixth. Tedesco singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a passed ball. Yonan then hit an RBI single, narrowing the deficit to 4-1. After a Sbardella double, Brittingham entered the circle, getting the final out of the inning.

Giles pitched a 1-2-3 sixth, keeping the Buccaneers within striking distance. Bergmann hit a one-out solo home run to make it 4-2 in the top of the seventh. Brandy Galaviz then walked, and went to second on a groundout. Brittingham finished off the game, getting Tedesco to fly out to right for the final out.

The Lady Flames remain at home, Wednesday, and will host UNCG in a doubleheader at Liberty Softball Field. First pitch for the opening game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
