As a result of their impressive performances at the IC4A and ECAC Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, Liberty's Fred Fulton, Meghan Burggraf and Mychelle Cumings each earned Big South weekly honors on Thursday. Fulton is the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, Burggraf is the Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Cumings is the Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Fulton contributed to the Flames' fourth-place finish in the final IC4A standings. Meanwhile, Burggraf (800) and Cumings (shot put) both won individual event titles, helping the Lady Flames finish a program-best third in the ECAC meet. Fulton earns the first Big South weekly award of his career after finishing as the IC4A shot put runner-up. The junior threw a personal-best 59-4.25 in round five, moving up to third place on Liberty's all-time list for the event. Burggraf was honored for the second time this season and the third time in her career, thanks to her ECAC title in the 800-meter run. Burggraf clocked a personal-best time of 2:06.84 to win the event by more than a second and claim her first career ECAC crown. Cumings is now a six-time Big South Athlete of the Week for her career. The junior from Madison, Tenn., won the ECAC shot put title by a foot and a half on Sunday, thanks to her 52-9.5 heave. Cumings has claimed a pair of ECAC championships in her career, after claiming top honors in the 2013 discus competition. Liberty will begin the 2014 outdoor track & field season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, set for Friday and Saturday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
