Lacrosse Welcomes George Mason for Midweek Tilt

The Liberty lacrosse team opens a two-game home stand on Wednesday, hosting the George Mason Patriots at 4 p.m. at Liberty Lacrosse Field. The two-match home stretch comes after the Lady Flames played four of their first five contests of the season on the road.

Series Against George Mason
The Lady Flames will be looking for their first win in three attempts against the Patriots on Wednesday. George Mason has won each of the previous two meetings, including a matchup in Fairfax, Va., last year, 14-9. The two squads faced each other in Lynchburg on March 14, 2012, with the Patriots coming away with a 20-9 victory.

Last Time Out
Last Wednesday, Liberty suffered its fourth road setback of the season, falling at George Washington, 21-10, in Washington, D.C. Sam Struss notched her third hat trick of the season, while Nina Dunay added three goals of her own to lead the way for the Lady Flames. Liberty tallied a season-high 24 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in the loss.

Previewing the Lady Flames
Liberty (1-4) looks to improve to 2-0 at home when it returns to Liberty Lacrosse Field after playing on the road last week at George Washington. Dating back to April 1, 2013, the Lady Flames have won three out of their last four home contests.

Sam Struss is having the best offensive season of her career, notching a team-high 14 goals and 15 points through the first five games. Nina Dunay ranks second on the team in points with nine (7 goals, 2 assists), while Kallie Britton and Alyssa Kidder are tied for third with eight tallies each. Britton leads the squad in assists with five and is tied for the team lead in ground balls (11) with Dunay and Courtney Brown. Dunay has a team-best eight caused turnovers, while Morgan Becker tops the squad with 18 draw controls. 

Kristen Masullo has played the majority of the minutes in between the pipes for Liberty. The senior has a .407 save percentage and a 17.28 goals-against average.

Previewing the Patriots
George Mason enters tomorrow's game coming off a triple-overtime win against Longwood. The 13-12 victory over the Lancers improved the Patriots to 1-2 on the season. Each of George Mason's first three contests has been decided by one goal each. The match against the Lady Flames will be the Patriots' first road tilt of the season.

Rachel Obergon leads George Mason goals (10), points (11) and caused turnovers (5). Melissa Lobaccaro has a team-best eight draw controls, while Katie Mascolo has scooped up five ground balls to pace the Patriots. In goal, Caroline Brouse has a .300 save percentage and an 8.89 goals-against average.

Liberty closes its brief home stand on Sunday when it hosts Old Dominion at Liberty Lacrosse Field. First draw versus the Monarchs is scheduled for 1 p.m.
