After helping Liberty notch its first win of the 2014 season, Lady Flames' attacker Michaela Rich has been named the Big South Lacrosse Freshman of the Week for the first time in her young career.
Making her third consecutive start, Rich had a breakout game on Friday in Liberty's 13-9 victory over Elon. The freshman tallied her first career hat trick, scoring three times on a game-high eight shots. Rich put the Lady Flames in front early, scoring on an assist from Kallie Britton a mere 37 seconds into the contest. With the scored tied at five, Rich notched her second marker of the contest with just under 2:30 to go in the first half. The Monrovia, Md., native capped off her first career hat trick with her third goal less than a minute later.
Rich also collected her first two career ground balls versus the Phoenix. For the season, the attacker ranks second on the team with four goals and 12 shots.
Liberty (1-3) returns to action tomorrow with a trip to the nation's capital to face George Washington. Game time versus the Colonials is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Live stats and live video links for the contest can be accessed by visiting the lacrosse team page on LibertyFlames.com.
