Meghan Burggraf was named Big South Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career.
Liberty's duo of redshirt senior Meghan Burggraf and redshirt junior Jocelyn Williams have been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, after both excelled at the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invitational. For Burggraf, the award is her first of the season and the second of her career. Meanwhile, Williams completes a sweep of the Big South and ECAC Athlete of the Week awards for the second week in a row. Burggraf finished a close second to 2013 ACC runner-up Alaine Tate of Miami in the Don Kirby women's 800-meter final on Saturday, clocking an impressive time of 2:07.90 at Albuquerque's mile-high altitude. Burggraf's time, which set a new personal best by two seconds, ranks her No. 33 nationally. She is also the second-fastest women's 800-meter runner in Big South history, trailing only former teammate Jaime Watson. Williams entered Friday's competition with a weight throw school record of 64-0.25, before five of her six throws eclipsed that mark, highlighted by a 66-6.5 effort on her fourth attempt. Williams, who placed third in the competition at the Albuquerque Convention Center, now ranks first in the Big South, fifth in the ECAC and No. 24 nationally in the women's weight throw. The New Jersey native also moved up to No. 3 on the Big South Conference's all-time women's weight throw list with the longest effort by a conference athlete since March 3, 2007. Burggraf and Williams will take this weekend off from competition before returning to action at the 2014 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships. The two-day meet is scheduled for Feb. 28 and March 1 at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
