Following a third-place finish and leading the Flames to a team title, Liberty's Niklas Lindstrom has been named this week's Big South Men's Golfer of the Week.
Lindstrom paced the way for Liberty with a two-over par 218 (71-74-73) and helped the Flames finished the Sea Best Invitational tied for first place with North Florida.
Liberty was declared the tournament champion based upon its better final round score, giving the program its 23rd NCAA Division I team tournament title.
Lindstrom opened play at the famed TPC Sawgrass – THE PLAYER Stadium course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., with a one-under par 71. This marked the senior's third sub-par round of the year and the 22nd of his career.
Liberty's third-place showing at the Jacksonville-hosted event was his second top five finish of the season and the 11th at Liberty.
The conference honor marks the first for Lindstrom this season and the fifth of his career. The Kalmar, Sweden, native was named Big South Men's Golfer of the Week four times during the 2012-13 season.
Lindstrom currently ranks third on Liberty's roster with a 73.60 stroke average. He has played in five events and posted seven rounds at par or better this season.
Lindstrom and the Flames return to the course on Feb. 15-16 when they travel back to Florida to participate in the Gator Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
