Liberty to Wrap Up Regular Season at Davidson Duals

The Liberty swimming & diving team will close out the regular-season portion of its 2013-14 schedule this weekend, competing at the Davidson Duals on Friday and Saturday at Davidson's Charles A. Cannon Pool.
Friday night's session begins at 6 p.m. with the 200 medley relay. On Saturday, action starts with the 400 medley relay at 11 a.m.

The Davidson Duals features four Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) teams, and serves as a tuneup for the 2014 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships. Liberty will face host Davidson, Georgia Southern and Howard, with head-to-head scoring against each team.

This marks the fourth season in a row in which the Lady Flames will bring the dual-meet portion of the schedule to a close at the Davidson Duals. Liberty went undefeated at the meet in both 2012 (6-0) and 2013 (5-0).

The Lady Flames hold a 6-4 dual-meet record this season, and are currently ranked No. 15 in the latest Division I Mid-Major Rankings. Liberty has appeared in three Endless Pools/ Top 25 listings this season, highlighted by a season-best No. 43 ranking in the Oct. 30 listing.

During Liberty's most recent meet, on Jan. 18 in Nashville, Tenn., the Lady Flames downed both Vanderbilt of the SEC and West Florida. Liberty downed Vanderbilt twice this season, and also posted a win at Big Ten opponent Michigan State.

Senior Emilie Kaufman won both the 100 breaststroke (1:03.26) and 200 breaststroke (2:20.14) at the Vanderbilt tri-meet. The Lady Flames won the 200 medley relay (1:44.06) and 200 free relay (1:35.77). Kristin VanDeventer (1000 free - 10:29.03), Heather McCorkel (200 free - 1:53.22), Meghan Babcock (50 free - 23.55) and Jess Reinhardt (100 fly - 54.62) also claimed event victories.

Reinhardt was named Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 13, after posting three event victories during the previous weekend against Vanderbilt and Richmond. She broke Liberty's pool records in the 100 fly (54.96) and 200 fly (2:06.00) on Nov. 8 versus Vanderbilt. Reinhardt's conference-best 100 fly time of 54.22 is an NCAA B cut, while she also leads the CCSA in the 200 fly, at 2:01.58.

Babcock earned CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week honors on Oct. 30, after winning the 50 free and 100 free at Michigan State. She broke the pool 50 free record, at 23.16, the third fastest time in the CCSA so far this season. Her 100 free time of 51.37 ranks fifth in the CCSA.

Kaufman was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 16, earning her fourth career swimmer of the week honor. At Michigan State, Kaufman broke the program record in the 200 IM, in 2:02.98. She holds the top time in the CCSA in the 100 breast (NCAA B Cut 1:02.20), 200 breast (2:16.68) and 200 IM (program-record 2:02.49).

VanDeventer's program-record time in the 1,650 free (17:08.43) is the CCSA's third-best clocking this season, while her 1,000 free (10:19.65) is rated fourth.

Junior Emily Duff's 2:03.25 in the 200 back ranks third in the CCSA, and she is fifth in the 100 back, at 57.68.

Liberty's relays have excelled once again this season, highlighted by a conference-best 1:40.39 in the 200 medley relay. The Lady Flames rank second in the CCSA in the 200 and 400 free relays, and in the 400 medley relay.

At present, a total of seven Lady Flames hold times that rank within the top five in the CCSA.
