Liberty lacrosse head coach Kelly Nangle has announced the signing of eight student-athletes to national letters of intent for the 2014-2015 academic year. Nangle's first recruiting class as the head coach of the Lady Flames includes a pair of All-Americans. The eight players - Abigail Britton, Anna Browne, Kaitlyn Cassidy-Fischetti, Erin Cornell, Lindsey McNamara, Katy Pridemore, Lindsey Rzempoluch and Caroline Smith - hail from five different states, including four from Florida and one each from Kansas, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina.
"We are very excited to announce the addition of these eight student-athletes into our Liberty lacrosse family," commented Nangle. "We faced an extremely difficult challenge in replacing our current group of very talented seniors. This is a special group of very talented and athletic girls that will look to make an immediate impact. Along with our returners, this group has the potential to continue to take this program to new heights."
Abigail Britton (A/M – Overland Park, Kan.) Abigail Britton will join her sister Kallie Britton and cousin Paige Britton on the Lady Flames, next season. Britton has helped lead Blue Valley Northwest High School to three consecutive district titles and was named to the U.S. Lacrosse Central Women's Division national team each of those years. As a freshman, Britton notched 33 goals, 13 assists and 48 ground balls. Britton followed up her freshman campaign with 61 goals, 28 assists and 46 ground balls as a sophomore. This past spring, Britton was a member of the Kansas City Metro all-star team after recording 68 goals, 18 assists and 53 ground balls. Britton has played the past four seasons of club lacrosse for the national FCA team. Off the field, Britton was named an Eastern Kansas League scholar athlete and is also a member of the National Honor Society and an FCA president. Anna Browne (D – Naples, Fla.) Competing at Barron Collier High School, Anna Browne is a three-year varsity letterwinner. The defender helped lead her team to a district title each of the last three years. Browne was tabbed first team all-conference and second team all-area as a freshman after recording five goals, 45 ground balls and 19 draw controls. During her sophomore year, Browne was tabbed first team all-conference once again and first team all-area. The Naples, Fla., native earned first team All-American and academic All-American honors this past spring, as well as another first team all-conference nod. As a junior, she notched four goals, 40 draw controls and 35 ground balls. Browne competes on the club level for Lax Maniax. She also has five varsity letters in diving and was a regional competitor three years.
Kaitlyn Cassidy-Fischetti (A – Toms River, N.J.) Kaitlyn Cassidy-Fischetti is a three-year varsity letterwinner entering her senior season at Toms River High School North. She became just the third freshman in school history to play for the varsity squad. As a sophomore, Cassidy-Fischetti was limited to just four games, but still managed to tally six goals and three assists. During junior season, the attacker notched 29 goals and a team-leading 33 assists. Cassidy-Fischetti plays club lacrosse for South Jersey Select. An honor roll student, Cassidy-Fischetti was also a three-year member of the cross country team and served as the team captain this fall.
Erin Cornell (A – Apex, N.C.) Erin Cornell is a three-year letterwinner at Apex High School. As a freshman, Cornell helped lead her squad to a state championship. She was named academic all-conference and was also a member of the North Carolina U-15 national team. Cornell earned all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore after recording 38 goals, nine assists and six draw controls. This past spring, the attacker notched 52 goals, 14 assists, 38 ground balls and 31 draw controls and was tabbed first team and academic all-conference. The past two years, Cornell has competed for the North Carolina U-17 national team, and this past season, was a member of the East team for the North Carolina Games. At the club level, Cornell plays for the Carolina Fever.
Lindsey McNamara (M – Windermere, Fla.) Lindsey McNamara is coming off a junior season which saw the midfielder earn first team all-metro and first team all-district honors as well as the captain's award. McNamara collected the recognition after tallying 54 goals, 26 draw controls and seven assists. A three-year varsity letterwinner at Olympia High School, McNamara recorded 17 goals as a sophomore. Upon enrollment at Liberty, McNamara intends to major in business.
Katy Pridemore (M/A – Vero Beach, Fla.) After missing her freshman season due to injury, Katy Pridemore has amassed 164 goals, 85 assists, 95 ground balls and 71 draw controls over the past two seasons at Vero Beach High School. She has helped lead her team to back-to-back state titles and top-10 national rankings. After her sophomore season, Pridemore was named a U.S. Lacrosse first-team All-American and was the No. 2 ranked sophomore in the nation by Inside Lacrosse magazine. Pridemore paced Vero Beach in scoring and was tabbed team MVP, first team all-league, first team all-region and first team all-district. The midfielder/attacker was a two-time ESPN high school player of the week and a U.S. Lacrosse magazine Top Performer. Following her junior season, Pridemore garnered U.S. Lacrosse All-American and academic All-American recognition, as well as an Under Armour Underclassman All-American. She was awarded the Florida Dairy Farmers 2013 Miss Lacrosse award and was also named the Scripps Treasure Coast News Florida Player of the Year. Pridemore once again earned the team MVP honor and second consecutive first team all-league, all-region and all-district plaudits. The No. 3 ranked junior in the country, Pridemore was a two-time Top Performer by U.S. Lacrosse magazine and an ESPN high school player of the week. Pridemore competed at the U.S. Lacrosse All-America Showcase and was selected to play for the FCA national team.
Lindsey Rzempoluch (D – Farmingdale, N.Y.) Lindsey Rzempoluch enters her senior season at Farmingdale High School as a three-year varsity letterwinner. Rzempoluch will join the Lady Flames as a defender. She has played three years of club lacrosse for the Long Island Yellow Jackets. Rzempoluch's father played collegiate lacrosse for national power Johns Hopkins.
Caroline Smith (M - Palm City, Fla.) A midfielder, Caroline Smith is a three-year varsity starter and two-year varsity captain at Martin County High School. Smith tallied 37 goals, 12 assists, 27 draw controls and 25 ground balls her sophomore year and was given the team's Most Improved award. Smith earned second team all-district and honorable mention all-region recognition and was also named a U.S. Lacrosse South Florida National Team player. After her junior season, Smith garnered first team all-district, first team all-region and second team all-league plaudits. Smith was also named an academic All-American and U.S. Lacrosse South Florida National Team player and Under Armour Underclassman South player. Smith has played for various club lacrosse teams and also competed on the swim team at Martin County, advancing to the state championships her senior year.
