The Liberty Flames will open their quest for the 2013 Big South Men's Soccer Championship at High Point, N.C., Tuesday night. The Big South Conference announced the seedings and pairings for the league's tournament with the close of the conference's 2013 regular season earlier this evening,
The Flames, who completed their regular season this past Wednesday, finished Big South play with a 5-5 record and compiled 15 points to tie for seventh place in the standings with the Winthrop Eagles. By virtue of their 3-2, two overtime victory on Oct. 9 at Osborne Stadium, Liberty, 9-8 overall, earns the No. 7 seed for the tournament and will meet the High Point Panthers, the No. 2 seed, in the Big South Quarterfinals, Tuesday evening at Vert Stadium. Match time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
High Point earned the No. 2 seed and the right to host a quarterfinal contest by finishing their regular season in second place in the Big South standings with a 6-2-2 record for 20 points. The Panthers, 8-7-3 overall, defeated the Flames, 3-1, earlier this year at Vert Stadium on Oct. 1.
The winner of Liberty-High Point match will advance to Friday's second semifinal game at Bryant Park in Greensboro, N.C., the host site for this year's tournament, against the winner of No. 3 seed Longwood and No. 6 seed Campbell. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Coastal Carolina, ranked No. 14 nationally, claimed the top seed for the Big South Men's Soccer Championship with a 9-1 Big South mark and 27 points
The 2013 Big South Men's Soccer Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Tuesday, before moving to Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. for the semifinals and finals on Nov. 15 and 17. The top four seeds will host quarterfinal games, Tuesday.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will air on the Big South Network, with the finals airing on ESPN3. The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, Nov. 12 (at Highest Seeds) Game 1: No. 4 seed Gardner-Webb vs. No. 5 seed Radford, 6 p.m. Game 2: No. 1 seed Coastal Carolina vs. No. 8 seed Winthrop, 6 p.m. Game 3: No. 2 seed High Point vs. No. 7 seed Liberty, 8 p.m. Game 4: No. 3 seed Longwood vs. No. 6 seed Campbell, 6 p.m.
