Liberty picked up its first road victory of the season and evened its Big South record at 1-1 with a resounding 24-0 shutout victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
Following a scoreless 15 minutes of play, the Flames dominated the final 45 minutes of the game, scoring three touchdowns and adding a career-best 52-yard field goal by John Lunsford.
Liberty's defense finished the game with six sacks and 14 tackles for a loss en route to posting the Flames' first shutout since 2011 and its first blanking of a Division I opponent since 2008.
The Flames' defensive line played a large part in the shutout victory. Liberty's front four finished the game with 17 tackles (eight solo, 11 assisted), 5.0 sacks, 12.5 tackles for a loss, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. The group was named this week's Big South Defensive Player of the Week.
