Liberty Travels to No. 6 Coastal Carolina for Conference Match

The Liberty Flames will travel to Conway, S.C. for a men's soccer match with the No. 6 ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, Friday afternoon.   The Big South Conference contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. at CCU Soccer Field.

Liberty (7-6, 3-3 Big South) will look to extended its conference winning streak to three.  The Flames recorded victories over Winthrop and Presbyterian College in their last two Big South matches.

Friday's match with Coastal Carolina (11-2, 6-0 Big South) will be the highest ranked opponent the Flames have met on the soccer pitch since falling to the No. 2 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, 2-0, on Oct. 12, 2010 at Osborne Stadium.

A Look at Liberty
Liberty had a three-game winning streak snapped in a 2-0 loss at N.C. State, Tuesday evening. The winning streak was the longest of the year for the Flames.

Midfielder Sachem Wilson continues to pace the Flames in goals, assists and points.  The sophomore has netted five goals and assisted on three others for 13 points.  Sophomore Tim Harbison follows with 10 points on four goals and two assists.

Midfielder Blessing Tahuona and forward Kyle Breitmeyer join the pair as multiple-goal scorers this season.  Tahuona has scored three goals, while Breitmeyer has netted two goals. 

Tyler Bullock, Jonatan Torres, Sam Duininck, Jacob Sebold and Ernest Siaw have each scored a goal for the Flames in 2013.

Goalkeeper Jeremy Lee has started the past five contests. The redshirt freshman has logged over 598 minutes between the posts for the Flames this season, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and .730 save percentage. 

Liberty has posted five shutouts, all coming in victories this season.  As a team, Liberty enters Friday's game with a 1.37 goals-against average.

Liberty's Jeff Alder is in his 13th year as head coach at his alma mater.  Alder has posted a 123-92-22 career record, while heading the Flames' program.

All-Time Against Coastal Carolina
Friday afternoon will be the 25th meeting between Liberty and Coastal Carolina on the soccer pitch. The Chanticleers hold a 15-8-1 overall record in the all-time series. However, the Chanticleers hold a slight 4-3-1 over the last eight meetings between the two.

Last season, the then-No. 19 Chanticleers defeated the Flames, 3-0, at the East Campus Fields on Sept. 19.

A Look at Coastal Carolina
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers enter Friday's contest with a 10-game winning streak.  The Chanticleers defeated Big South opponent Radford, 1-0, in their latest outing this past Sunday. Coastal Carolina is unbeaten in Big South Conference play with a 6-0 record.

Midfielder Ricky Garbanzo leads the Chanticleers with seven goals on the season, while fellow midfielder Pedro Ribeiro paces Coastal Carolina with 16 points on six goals and four assists.

Goalkeeper Devin Cook has played in all 13 of the Chanticleers' contests, starting all but one. Cook enters Friday's game with a 0.79 goals-against average, which leads the Big South Conference. He has also been in goal for each of Coastal Carolina's seven shutouts.

Shaun Docking is in his 18th year at Coastal Carolina.  The Chanticleers have recorded a 225-111-29 mark during his tenure.

Big South Play
With a 3-1 victory over Presbyterian College last Friday at Osborne Stadium, Liberty evened its record to 3-3 in Big South play.

With four conference games remaining, the Flames are currently tied for fifth in the Big South standings with Winthrop. Coastal Carolina leads the conference, with the only unblemished Big South record.

Liberty is 96-82-14 all-time in Big South Conference contests. The Flames have posted a .500 or better conference ledger in 20 out of their 22 seasons in the conference.

Liberty has won two Big South titles, both during head coach Jeff Alder's tenure.  Liberty captured conference titles in 2007 and 2011.

A Look Ahead
Liberty returns home to Osborne Stadium for a Big South Conference contest, Tuesday evening.  The Flames will host the Longwood Lancers, with match time scheduled for 6 p.m.
