The Liberty Flames men's soccer team will begin a stretch of three straight home games, Saturday. The Flames (4-5, 1-3 BSC) will host the Winthrop Eagles (7-2-1, 1-1 BSC) for a Big South Conference match at Osborne Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Flames, who just finished a three-game road swing, will return home for three consecutive home contests this week, two of which are Big South Conference matches. Besides the Winthrop contest, Liberty will host Presbyterian College in the last of the three games, next Friday. The Flames have split two home games this season.

A Look at Liberty After an eight day break, Liberty returned to action at Davidson, Wednesday evening. Despite a strong effort, the Flames dropped a 2-0 decision to the Wildcats in a defensive match.
Through the midway point of the year, midfielder Sachem Wilson leads the Flames with four goals and 10 points. The sophomore is joined by forward Kyle Breitmeyer with multiple goals. Breitmeyer has netted two goals, including the game-winner in a 1-0 victory at UNC Asheville on Sept. 28.
Tim Harbison, Jonatan Torres, Sam Duininck, Jacob Sebold and Blessing Tahouna have also netted a goal each for the Flames this season.
Liberty has utilized three different goalkeepers, Scott Sutarik, Sam Chappell, and Jeremy Lee during the 2013 campaign. Sutarik has seen the bulk of the action, making six starts between the posts for the Flames. The junior enters the week with a 1.17 goals-against average and three shutouts. As a team, Liberty has posted a 1.44 goals-against average.
Liberty's Jeff Alder is in his 13th year as head coach at his alma mater. Alder has posted a 120-91-22 career record, while heading the Flames' program.
All-Time Against Winthrop Liberty and Winthrop will meet for the 34th time, Saturday afternoon. Liberty holds a 20-11-3 record in the all-time series, which started in 1978. Although the Flames dominated the early part of the all-time series between the two schools, the series has become one of the more anticipated games on the Big South schedule since 2000. Liberty holds a 10-8-2 advantage over the Eagles since 2000, but with their 2-1 overtime win at Osborne Stadium in the Big South Quarterfinals last season, Winthrop has a 7-5-2 edge in the series since 2005.
The two teams met twice in 2012. During the regular season, the Flames and Eagles played to a 1-1 tie in Rock Hill, S.C., on October 20. Later in the Big South Quarterfinals, the Eagles scored in the 95th minute for a 2-1 win over the Flames on Nov. 6.
A Look at Winthrop After jumping out to a 7-0-1 mark to begin their 2013 season, the Eagles have dropped their last two games, including a 2-1 setback to Big South Conference opponent Campbell, Tuesday night at home.
The Eagles have not lost on the road this season. Winthrop has posted a 6-0-1 record away from Rock Hill this season, including all three of its shutouts.
Freshman forward Max Hasenstab leads the Eagles and ranks second in the Big South Conference in goals (7), assists (5) and points (19). Achille Obougou with four, Adriano Negri with three and Mason Lavallet and Jose Mencia with two apiece have netted multiple goals for Winthrop. As a team, the Eagles have scored 25 goals this season, most by a Big South Conference squad.
Guilherme Avelar has started every contest in goal this season for Winthrop. Avelar has posted a 1.03 goals-against average and two shutouts.
Eagles head coach Rich Posipanko is in his 25th season at Winthrop. Posipanko has guided the Eagles to a 247-204-33 record during his time at the school.
Road Warriors Wednesday evening at Davidson, Liberty passed the midway point of its 2013 regular season campaign. Of the Flames' first nine games, seven have been on the road this season, where Liberty has recorded a 3-4 mark.
Beginning with Saturday's matchup, Liberty will host three straight home games. Of the Flames' remaining eight games, five will be at home.
A Look Ahead Liberty will host the Howard Bison at Osborne Stadium, Tuesday. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
