Lady Flames Head to UNCG, Thursday

Riding a four-game winning streak, the Liberty women's soccer team heads to Greensboro, N.C., for a matchup with UNCG, Thursday.

Liberty is looking for its first-ever win over the Spartans, as UNCG leads the all-time series, 5-0. In the Lady Flames' most recent meeting with the Southern Conference member, UNCG defeated Liberty, 4-0 (Sept. 3, 2002). Game time for the sixth installment in the series is slated for 7 p.m.

On Sunday, the Lady Flames return to Osborne Stadium to play host to Marshall. Liberty hopes to even the all-time series at 1-1-1, while improving its home record to 3-0. The Lady Flames and The Herd last met in Rock Hill, S.C., during the 2010 Winthrop Tournament (Aug. 29, 2010). Each team's offense was firing on all cylinders, resulting in a 3-3 tie.

The third meeting between the squads begins at 2 p.m.

A Look at the Lady Flames
Liberty improved to 4-1 for the first time in program history, this past weekend, picking up a pair of wins in Philadelphia over Drexel and Saint Joseph's.

On Friday, Alanna Dunkle posted two first-period goals, while Julia Delgatti added another in the 80th minute off a Lauren Nicholas assist to give Liberty the 3-0 victory over the Dragons.

Three different Lady Flames lit up the scoreboard on Sunday, with Maddie Boone, Brittany Aandeurd and Geena Swentik contributing to Liberty's hat trick of goals in a 3-0 victory versus Saint Joseph's.

Holly Van Noord finished the week with eight saves and two shutout victories to earn ECAC and Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors. The netminder now has four shutouts on the year and has not allowed a goal since the Lady Flames' season opener at Charlotte (Aug. 23).

According to the latest NCAA statistical rankings, Van Noord is No. 8 in the country in save percentage (.957) and No. 14 in goals-against average (.192).

Dunkle leads the Lady Flames in total points with seven and is tied for No. 2 in the Big South with three assists. Along with Dunkle, forwards Crystal Elmers and Megan Warner have also scored two goals, this season, while Delagatti, Boone, Aanderud and Swentik each have one.

UNCG at a Glance
The Spartans are 4-2 on the season, claiming road victories against Hawai'i, East Carolina and a 3-1 win versus High Point last weekend.

Junior Ashley Stokes leads the team with five points on two goals and one assist. Sophomore Chesney White is tied for second with freshman Katelyn Mountjoy, each scoring two goals apiece. Freshman Georgia Brown has added a goal and two assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Simmons leads UNCG in net, allowing just three goals in 570:50 minutes. Simmons has three shutouts, 35 saves and a 0.47 goals-against average in six games.

Sneak Peek at Marshall
Marshall will enter Sunday's contest with a 3-2-1 record on the year. Much like the Lady Flames, The Herd also made a recent trip to Philadelphia. Marshall picked up a 1-0 win at Temple on Friday, before falling to La Salle, 2-1, Sunday.

Erin Simmons leads The Herd with three goals and six points on the season. Myka DeMarco also has six points, this year, with two goals and two assists.

Goalkeeper Lizzie Kish has played in between the posts for all six games. In 560 minutes of action, she has recorded three shutouts, 23 saves (.821) and has a goals-against average of 0.80.
