Each week during the 2013 football season, the Liberty Flames Sports Network will preview the Flames' upcoming gridiron matchup, starting this week by taking a look at the Kent State Golden Flashes.
Kent State had one of its best seasons in program history, finishing 2012 with an 11-3 record and an 8-0 mark in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play that led to a MAC East title.
Kent State is led by returning consensus All-America running back Dri Archer, who led the nation in rushing yards per carry (9.0) and kick return average (36.9) and was No. 5 in all-purpose yards. Archer rushed for 1,429 yards and 16 yards and was part of one of the top backfields in the country in 2012 along with returning teammate Trayion Durhan (1,316 yards, 14 TDs).
Liberty was the top rushing defense in the Big South in 2012 and ranked No. 24 in the country by holding opponents to 126.09 rushing yards per game. The Flames held five opponents in 2012 to less than 100 rushing yards per game, including their season-opening game at Wake Forest (98 yards).
The game will be the second meeting the series between the two programs. In the first matchup, Kent State won the game, 38-10, on Sept. 11, 2004, at Dix Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 6:04 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3. For more information about the game, visit Liberty's Game Day Central page.
