Maren Releases Women's Tennis Fall Slate

2013 Women's Tennis Fall Schedule

Entering his second season with the Lady Flames tennis program, head coach Jeff Maren has announced the team's tournament schedule for the fall semester.

"We are very excited about our fall schedule, because it will provide us with the perfect amount of quality competition necessary to get us ready for the spring season," commented Maren.

Liberty opens its fall schedule by hosting the Liberty Fall Classic on Sept. 13-14 at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts. This year's classic marks the third consecutive season the Lady Flames have hosted the event. In last year's tournament, Liberty posted 21 total victories. Rebekah Jenkins headlined play for the Lady Flames, capturing the singles title in the Flight 4 bracket.

The final weekend of September sees Liberty travel to Blacksburg, Va., for the Hokie Fall Invite from Sept. 27-29. After taking the next several weekends off, the Lady Flames return to action at the ITA Atlantic Regional in Charlottesville, Va., on Oct. 18-20. In 2012, Liberty had a program record 11 entries in the Atlantic Regional.

The Lady Flames conclude their fall schedule on Nov. 1-3 at the FIU Invite in Miami, Fla.

In the 2013 spring season, Liberty posted an 11-11 (6-3 Big South) overall record, marking the fourth consecutive season the squad has reached double digits in victories. After earning the No. 4 seed for the Big South Women's Tennis Championship, Liberty knocked off the No. 5 seed Coastal Carolina, 4-1, in the quarterfinals.

Each of Liberty's singles starters and two out of three doubles pairs return this season, including Nicola Wellman who led the team with 12 singles wins last season. No. 1 and No. 2 singles starters Cameron Richard and Jenkins also return for their senior season.

"The team is already hard at work and our new players have blended nicely into the system," stated Maren. "God has truly blessed our program with 10 girls who believe in the ‘family-first' environment that we have in place."
