LibertyFlames.com continues its coverage of August football with the final installment in a series of previews of Liberty's 2013 opponents, featuring Liberty's non-conference opponents today.
Liberty will face a total of seven non-conference opponents, including four first-time matchups for the Flames against Monmouth (Sept. 7), Richmond (Sept. 21), Old Dominion (Oct. 5) and Brevard (Nov. 16).
Each of the first-time meetings has its own interesting storyline – Monmouth (facing future Big South opponent), Richmond (facing former head coach Danny Rocco), Old Dominion (facing transitioning FBS program) and Brevard (Liberty's final regular-season home game).
Liberty opens the year at Kent State on Aug. 29. The Golden Flashes lead the series, 1-0, with the Flames after handing Liberty a 38-10 setback on Sept. 11, 2004.
Two weeks later, Liberty will host Morgan State during Hall of Fame weekend on Sept. 14. The Flames hold a 2-1 series edge over the Bears, but Morgan State won the last matchup, 34-28, in Baltimore, Md., on Sept. 21, 1996.
The final familiar non-conference foe on Liberty's non-conference slate is Kentucky Wesleyan. The Flames lead the overall series, 2-0, and have outscored Panthers 104-7 in their previous two meetings.
