Liberty held its first official preseason practice of 2013 on Wednesday morning, kicking off the Flames second campaign under head coach Turner Gill.
The Flames practiced from 9:15 a.m. to around Noon, working out in warm-up gear and helmets in keeping with the NCAA mandatory acclimation period. Liberty will hold its first practice in full pads on Sunday, its fifth practice of the training camp.
The Flames utilized three different fields during the two-and-half hour practice, including Liberty's new turf practice field in front of the Williams Football Operation Center.
Following the morning workout, Liberty Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with Gill, who returns 18 starters (seven offense, eight defense and three special teams) from last year's team that claimed Liberty's fifth Big South title in the last six seasons.
LibertyFlames.com will continue its preseason camp coverage tomorrow when York previews the wide receiver position. The video package will include interviews with wide receiver coach Juan Taylor, junior Gabe Henderson and sophomore Darrin Peterson.
