The Liberty swimming team has earned the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award for academic excellence during the Spring 2013 semester.
Complete CSCAA Release The Liberty swimming program has earned the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team Award for academic excellence during the Spring 2013 semester. Additionally, four Lady Flames have been named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans. The Lady Flames' CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans included redshirt junior Brye Ravettine, sophomores Meghan Babcock and Emily Duff and freshman Laura Day. All four earned honorable mention Scholar All-America distinction. The Individual Scholar All-America award is given to college swimmers and divers who have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher, and have qualified for the national championship. Honorable mention is given to college swimmers and divers with a 3.5 GPA or higher who attained a "B" standard but were not invited to the national championship. Ravettine, a criminal justice major from Mahwah, N.J., repeats as a CSCAA Scholar All-American, after she was named to the first team in 2012. This season, she placed second in three events at the CCSA Championships, and earned NCAA B cuts in the 50 free (22.78) and 100 free (49.80). An exercise science major from Pfafftown, N.C., Babcock capped a breakthrough campaign with her first career B cut, as she swam 22.81 in the 50 free at the Ohio State Last Chance Meet. Babcock placed fourth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free at the CCSA Championships. Duff, a nursing major from Clayton, N.C., earned two medals at the 2013 CCSA Championships. She swam an NCAA B cut time of 1:58.30 to take second place in the 200 back, and placed third in the conference final of the 100 back. Day, from Peyton, Colo., majors in advertising and public relations. As a freshman, she won the CCSA title in the 100 breaststroke while placing second in the 200 breaststroke. She lowered her 100 breaststroke time to 1:01.26 during the Ohio State Last Chance Meet, meeting the B standard. This marks the fourth semester in a row during which Liberty swimming has received the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award. The CSCAA honors all college and university swimming and diving teams who have attained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. As a team, the Lady Flames achieved a 3.28 GPA last semester, which is the highest cumulative GPA during any semester in the program's three-year history to date.
