Jessica Moore was 2-for-4 in Liberty's loss to the College of Charleston at the KSU Classic.

The College of Charleston used a four-run sixth inning to take control and hold on for a 5-4 victory over Liberty, Sunday morning, in the Lady Flames' third game at the KSU Classic.

Unlike Liberty's first meeting against the Cougars where the Lady Flames didn't score until the seventh inning in their 3-2 victory yesterday, Liberty jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning to open the day against the College of Charleston.

Dawn Jeffs got an infield single with a ball hit deep in the hole at second, followed by a RBI double to the fence in left-center field by Ashley Williams to drive in Jeffs.
Beth Bennett kept things going for Liberty with a second infield hit, but shortstop Brittany Small's attempted throw to first got past first baseman Jennifer Golden, allowing Williams to score and give Liberty an early 2-0 edge.

The College of Charleston trimmed the two-run lead in half during the third inning, thanks to a pair of extra base hits. Katie Pesature opened the frame with a double to the fence in right center, followed by a two-base hit to the gap in left center by Izmena Cabrera two batters later to drive in Pesature and cut the lead to 2-1.

Liberty took advantage of a few miscues by the Cougars in the top of the fourth inning to push its lead to three runs. Starting pitcher Terri Mesko looked like she was going to get out of the inning as J'nae Jefferson grounded to shortstop, but the ball was mishandled to extend the inning.

The mistakes continued for the College of Charleston as Jessica Leary, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning, scored on a wild pitch, followed by a base hit through the right side of the infield by Jeffs, driving in Jefferson from second for a 4-1 Liberty lead.

However, the Cougars exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take control of the game. Kristie Shifflett led off the frame with a single to center field, followed by Jennifer Golden's third home run of the year, a two-run blast to left-center field.

Shannon Howard kept things rolling for the Cougars with a double to gap in left-center field. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Small, Howard scored on a passed ball to knot the score at four-all. Presature dropped in a single to right field, moving Katie Sansouci, who reached on a walk, into scoring position.

Three batters later, Amber Shifflett singled back up the middle, plating Sansouci to give the College of Charleston a 5-4 lead. Sansouci, who relieved Terri Mesko in the top of the fourth, got the Lady Flames to go down in order in the top of the seventh, to secure the victory.

Sansouci moved to 2-1 on the year with the victory in relief as she allowed one hit in 3 1/3 innings of work. Terra Lowe suffered the loss for the Lady Flames as she allowed five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of work, dropping her record to 0-2 on the season.

Liberty's two (Jeffs), three (Moore) and four (Williams) hitters in the line-up all finished the game 2-for-4 with Jeffs and Williams adding a run scored and a RBI each.

The Lady Flames will face host Kennesaw State in their final game of the KSU Classic, starting at 2 p.m.
