Ashley Williams was 2-for-3 with three RBI in Liberty's 6-2 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday.

The Lady Flames plated three runs in the first and three more in the fourth and fifth inning en route to a 6-2 win over host Kennesaw State, Saturday night, in the final game of the first day of the KSU Classic.

After the pair of victories, including a 3-2 win over the College of Charleston earlier in the day, the Lady Flames move to 4-1 on the season.

The Lady Flames used the momentum from the first game to jump out to an early lead as Liberty plated three runs during its time at the plate. J'nae Jefferson led off the inning with a single down the right-field line. Dawn Jeffs followed with a single to left field, while Jefferson was forced out at third on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jessica Moore.

Ashley Williams followed with a two-RBI double sharply hit down the left-field line, driving in Jeffs and Moore. After a groundout to second by Beth Bennett moved the runner, Williams gave the Lady Flames their third run of the frame as the catcher was able to score from third on a wild pitch.

The homestanding Owls used a two-out rally in the top of the third to get on the scoreboard as Keri McKee got a single back up the middle. Jennifer Nolan followed with a single down the left-field line, which left fielder Beth Hensley wasn't able to keep the ball in front of her, allowing McKee to score from first and trim Liberty's lead to 3-1.

The Lady Flames were able to push their lead back to three runs in the fourth inning as Liberty loaded the bases. Beth Bennett led off the frame by drawing a walk, followed by singles back up the middle off the bats of Michelle Fridey and Jessica Leary. The Owls changed pitchers, bringing in reliever Janet Kearns, who wasn't able to control one of her pitches, allowing pinch runner Rachel Love to score from third and to give Liberty a 4-1 edge.

Liberty added two insurance runs in the top the fifth to put the game out of reach. Jeffs led off the frame with a double to left field, while Jessica Moore traded places with the second baseman as Moore drove in Jeffs with a RBI single up the middle.

Williams followed with a RBI base knock straight back up the middle to plate Moore and push Liberty's lead to 6-1. The homestanding Owls were able to capitalize on a Liberty error to plate one run on a RBI double by McKee, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Flames claimed their second-straight victory of the day.

Williams, who hails from Lilburn, Ga., which is 35 miles southwest of Kennesaw, finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Jeffs was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Sarah Ellis tossed her second-straight complete game as the sophomore scattered seven hits and allowed two unearned runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

The Lady Flames will close out action at the KSU Classic with two more games against the same two squads tomorrow. Liberty opens the day against the College of Charleston at Noon, followed by a 2 p.m. contest against host Kennesaw State.
