The Lady Flames were finally able to capitalize on a scoring opportunity as Dawn Jeffs hit a three-run walk-off home run to give Liberty a 3-2 win over the College of Charleston, Saturday afternoon, in the Lady Flames' first game at the KSU Classic.

the contest remained scoreless until the top of the third inning as Izmena Cabrera led off the frame with a single through the left side of the infield, followed by Amber Shifflett drawing a walk.

Both runners advanced on a ground out by Kristie Shiffleff, while Cabrera scored the game's first run after a Sarah Swor wild pitch allowed the pair of runners to advance another base. Jennifer Golden followed by drawing the second walk of the inning, setting up the next scoring play.

Golden got caught in a rundown attempting to steal second and was tagged out at first, but Amber Shifflett took advantage of the pick-off play and stole home, giving the Cougars as 2-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh inning where Beth Hensley led off the frame by drawing a walk, followed by a base hit through the left side of the infield by J'nae Jefferson.

Liberty, who entered the inning having left eight runners on base, finally got one to cross the plate in dramatic fashion as Dawn Jeffs connected on an opposite-field home run. Her three-run homer over the fence in left-center field plated Hensley and Jefferson and gave the Lady Flames a 3-2 victory.

Jeffs led the Lady Flames from the plate as she was 3-for-4 with three RBI coming on the walk-off round-tripper. Jessica Moore followed as the center fielder was 2-for-3, while Jefferson (1-for-4), Ashley Williams (1-for-3) and Swor (1-for-3) collected Liberty's remaining hits.

Swor picked up the victory to up her record to 2-0 on the year as she scattered seven hits and allowed two runs. Terri Mesko was the tough-luck loser as the hurler fanned 10 batters and allowed three runs on eight hits in a complete-game effort.
