Sammi Shivock has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team.
Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Release Liberty junior designated player Sammi Shivock has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District III Softball Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), today. As a result of her inclusion on the academic all-district team, Shivock will now appear on the ballot for the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team. A native of New Castle, Del., Shivock holds a 3.81 grade-point average as a sport management major. She is the first Liberty softball player since Dawn Jeffs in 2007 to be named to the academic all-district team. Overall, five Lady Flames have now earned the award in program history. Shivock bats .327 on the season, and leads the team with career highs of 13 doubles and 42 RBIs. The junior has hit seven homers and scored 30 runs on the campaign, sporting a .530 slugging percentage. She was named Big South Softball Player of the Week on April 15 after hitting .538 with seven RBIs during the previous week. A 2012 Big South All-Academic Team member, Shivock has been named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll twice. She is also a two-time NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete. Shivock now ranks in the top 10 in program history in three career statistical categories. She is ninth all-time at Liberty with 93 career RBIs, and is currently in a tie for ninth in home runs (22). Her 98 runs scored have her in 10th position on the program's career list. The Lady Flames (19-35, 8-16 Big South) have concluded their regular-season schedule, and will await seeding for the 2013 Big South Softball Championship. The conference tournament will be held at Terry Field in Rock Hill, S.C., from May 9-12. Tournament seeds will be announced following the conclusion of conference play on Sunday.
