Hanna Nichols was named Big South Softball Player of the Week after hitting .583 this past week.
Following a standout week at the plate, Liberty sophomore first baseman Hanna Nichols has been named Big South Conference Choice Hotels Softball Player of the Week, as announced today. Nichols receives the first Player of the Week honor of her collegiate career. She is the first Lady Flame to be named Big South Softball Player of the Week since Feb. 27, 2012, when Meredith Crisante earned the award. A native of Richmond, Va., Nichols hit .583 (7-for-12) with one double, one homer, three RBIs and three runs scored, helping Liberty open conference play with a 3-1 record. She recorded a .643 on-base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage for the week. She was particularly effective during Liberty's 3-0 conference series sweep of visiting Presbyterian College, going 7-for-10 over the three-game set. During game one on Friday, she hit 3-for-5 with a double, and hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning for a 5-4 Liberty victory over the Blue Hose. She then batted 3-for-3 during Liberty's 2-1 win in game two on Friday. Nichols capped off the weekend by hitting a key two-run home run in the fifth inning on Saturday, providing the winning margin in an 8-6 triumph. The Lady Flames (14-12, 3-1 Big South) continue Big South play on Friday and Saturday, traveling to Buies Creek, N.C., to face Campbell in a three-game conference series. Friday's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m., while the Lady Flames and Camels will contest a single game at noon on Saturday.
