Liberty junior midfielder Jen Freymond has been awarded the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor, while attacker Kallie Britton has been tabbed the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
It is the second defensive player of the week honor for the Lady Flames, as Jen Moyer earned the award on Feb. 11.
Freymond and Britton played key roles in Liberty's perfect 2-0 week. The Lady Flames improved to 4-2 on the season, after wins against St. Francis (Pa.), 9-5, last Thursday and Wagner, 12-11, on Sunday.
Freymond recorded a team-high 12 ground balls, 10 draw controls and finished second on the team in caused turnovers with six, during the week. The Lakefield, Ontario native also contributed a pair of goals on six shots.
For the season, Freymond leads Liberty in ground balls (20), draw controls (23) and is second on the squad in caused turnovers with 11. In addition to her stout defensive play this year, Freymond has had a big impact on the offensive side of the field, tallying nine goals and one assist.
Britton had arguably the best week of her young collegiate career last week. The Overland Park, Kan. Native paced the Lady Flames with 10 points on five goals and five assists. The freshman also contributed five ground balls and a draw control.
Looking at the entire season, Britton is second on the team in points (20) and assists (9), third in goals (11) and tied for fourth in ground balls (10). Britton's 11 goals have come on just 19 shots.
Liberty will look to extend its three-game winning streak on Thursday when the Lady Flames travel to face the Bearcats of Cincinnati. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
